Originally founded in 1875, St. Gregory's University began its life as an abbey founded by Benedictine monks. After a fire destroyed the original abbey, the monks struck a deal with local residents and built a new one in Tulsa. It is there that they began offering classes to students, eventually growing to become the institution that it is today. Today, St. Gregory's University is a small private learning institution of about 700 students.
