Otterbein College, OH

Otterbein University was founded in 1847 in Westerville, Ohio, and has been associated with the United Methodist Church since 1968. Despite more than 160 years of higher education, in many ways the institution is now reaching full maturity. The school has grown to accommodate about 3,000 students in Otterbein University student housing, and in 2010, it changed its name from Otterbein College to reflect a marked increase in graduate students. Today, traditional undergraduate students, graduate students and adult learners in post-degree programs make up the class of scholars who reside on campus and in a university apartment in Westerville.

Student living at Otterbein University is made unique by the school's academic curriculum, which promotes interdisciplinary studies, as well as a range of specializations. The integrative studies program is a requirement aimed at introducing students to concepts alien to their major, in the belief that the liberal arts disciplines are all related and together can improve overall education. Aside from fulfilling this requirement, students are encouraged to delve into one of the school's 56 majors and 41 minors. Notably, student living at Otterbein is notable for its offering a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theater. In fact, it's one of the nation's only liberal arts colleges to offer such a degree.

Off campus housing at Otterbien University can also be a unique experience. While the school is nestled into a residential community, replete with parks and creeks, its also located just northeast of Ohio's capital city, Columbus.
