Northeastern Ohio Medical University was established in 1973, but its strength as a medical school and influence in the community continue to grow. Located in Rootstown, Ohio - 14 miles east of Akron - the community-based school makes student living more convenient for those enrolled by offering a combined Bachelors of Science / Medical Degree program that permits students to graduate with both degrees in the short span of six or seven years. NEOMED, as it's often called, has grown from an enrollment of about 42 students to more than 500 today. In addition to appreciating the school's medical training, many students choose student housing at Northeastern Ohio Medical University because of the institution's location in a cozy town, with easy access to northeastern Ohio's most popular city.
The appeal to student living at NEOMED is related to both academics and lifestyle. NEOMED is the only medical school in the country that has a partnership with four state universities, including the University of Akron, Cleveland State University, Kent State University and Youngstown State University. In addition, students may be trained at any of 17 affiliated hospitals near university apartments. Though the school has been centered in Rootstown for about 40 years, its growth is continuous. Several years ago, NEOMED added the College of Pharmacy and the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program, centered in rural Ohio.
Because of the many educational and training centers at the institution, students often opt for off campus housing in the area, allowing them to position themselves in the most convenient place.
