Mount Vernon Nazarene University, OH

Mount Vernon Nazarene University was established in Mount Vernon, Ohio, when the Church of the Nazarene’s General Assembly chartered the school in 1964. Many university apartments in the area are part of a Mount Vernon community that still maintains a heavily-concentrated Nazarene population. The school was instituted on an old property known as Lakeholm Farm, and the surrounding neighborhood remains somewhat rustic, extracting some of the more serene qualities from Ohio’s landscape. In addition to these attractions, Mount Vernon Nazarene University offers courses for many different kinds of learning, accommodating traditional undergraduate students all the way to working adults with a nearby university apartment.

Student living at Mount Vernon Nazarene University largely assumes a tradition that has been brushed aside at other universities. Academic programs include degrees for undergrads, graduate students and working adults. The school distinguishes itself by offering programs such as home economics and family and consumer sciences, that have been discarded in many other higher education curricula. Nonetheless, the institution has developed into a liberal arts college, and instructs on a variety of disciplines that may strike the curiosity of their students.

Located along the southern edge of Mount Vernon, the campus offers student housing that extends into the community. Off campus housing may be especially appealing to students who wish to live near one of the scenic vistas along the Kokosing River, which snakes past the campus.
