I have lived at the Overlook for several years and I have loved every minute of it. The building is beautiful and full of charm. The beautiful lake is my backyard and I love seeing it everyday. I felt the need to leave a review after reading the bad review below. While I obviously don't know the story behind any of it I would like to say that there are always two sides to a story and I wouldn't let it stop you from renting here. Some people are just hard to please no matter what you do. Stephanie the manager and David the maintenance tech are wonderful and always do what they can to help. I know I am looking forward to many more years of living here.
The building is absolutely gorgeous and has a ton of character. This is not a cookie-cutter apartment. I would say it was a nice starter home, but I grew tired of constant maintenance issues and difficulty getting a response from the property manager. I lived on the 4th floor and had a leak in my ceiling; it popped and went all over the place, ruining artwork I had on the walls and damaging furniture. I contact the property manager the night it happened (in July) and it was not fixed until October. My emails to Stephanie (property manager) were often ignored and it would take me three and four attempts to get a response. It was ridiculous. There was some sort of leak in the main lobby that caused the ceiling to break open; this was simply covered with plywood (which looked so ridiculously cheap and was not sufficient at all). Needless to say, it leaked again and the problem continued. Basically what I'm saying is that the maintenance here simply puts band aids on things that require bigger fixes. It's an old building and needs extra care.
The water in my kitchen sink was gross; I had to drink from the bathroom sink. I believe there was something wrong with the pipes. They say it has air conditioning, but you need to know that it is not central air. They will install one window unit (provided by the property) for you after it is already blazingly hot outside. I think last summer (2017) it wasn't installed until June and it was already in the 90s. The heat is radiator heat, which was difficult for me to regulate. The parking lot is absolutely atrocious during the winter; I know there is one resident who personally goes out and salts the walkway, but the lot itself is a sheet of ice and is rarely if ever plowed.
I lived here for two years. I had no real complaints my first year, but it all seemed to go downhill in the second term. I would once again say this was a great starter place. But it has more problems than amenities.
I love what im looking at, spacious, private, secure, and affordable. Noy to mention the location is prime for me. I work both jobs, and its the midway point to both. This is a must have kinda place if you ask me.
The manager was very helpful and exceptionally friendly. Time to call me to let me know I have another opening. Stephanie is an asset to your company.
