Living In Cleveland Institute of Music, OH

The Cleveland Institute of Music traces its history to 1920, when the famed composer Ernest Bloch opened its doors as the director. Throughout the years, the school has produced a long list of accomplished musicians, and instill a communal atmosphere of student living that leaves many students reluctant to leave their neighborhood in Cleveland Ohio. In fact, 36 alums of the school currently reside in the city as members of the Cleveland Orchestra. A college apartment in the University Circle area gives Cleveland Institute of Music students access to a prospering neighborhood of the city and a diverse student population.

More than 400 students join the music conservatory each year, in addition to about 1,700 preparatory and continuing education division students, many of whom reside in a college apartment in the region. The campus area has been the focus of aggressive development over the past few years, in an effort to enhance student living. Two new wings were added to the school’s main building in 2007, which include a state-of-the-art recital hall, a high-tech broadcasting center, new practice rooms, teaching studios, and a student lounge among its additions.

Off campus apartments near the campus and its galleries on East Boulevard place students in University Circle, a neighborhood distinguished by its large student population and frequent events. Near The Cleveland Institute of Art’s college apartments, students are easily able to participate in festivals, such as the Hessler Street Fair in May, Parade the Circle in June and the Little Italy Columbus Day Parade each October.
