The university, a four-year school that offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, is affiliated with the Church of Christ, and student living continues to be a primary source of preacher training for member churches in the region. Those who elect to live in MACU’s surrounding neighborhoods in Elizabeth City join a municipality of about 20,600 residents, that sits on the Pasquotank River and offers a variety of entertainment options, public events and student hangouts.
