Methodist University, a private institution in Fayetteville, North Carolina, has been a part of this vibrant, urban community since it first opened its doors in 1956. After 50 years under the banner of Methodist College, the school changed its name to Methodist University in 2006, and now offers three graduate programs as part of student living. As its name suggests, Methodist University retains a strong connection to the Methodist Church, and is historically related to the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, from which the university draws funding. The institution is currently one of the fastest growing colleges or universities in the Southeast, nearly doubling its enrollment since 1990. Today, student housing and university apartments in the area are home to about 2,100 undergraduates and about 100 graduate students. With the school's expansion, Methodist University has continued to develop its campus and become an NCAA Division III powerhouse in men's and women's golf.

Those who rent Methodist University student housing may enroll in any of 70 majors and concentrations, offered through four undergraduate schools, with special divisions for Business, Arts and Humanities, Science and Human Development, and Public Affairs. The Methodist University Graduate School confers a Master's of Business Administration, Master's of Justice Administration, and Physician Assistant Program. In each of these programs, the university strives to achieve its mission of providing "an undergraduate and graduate education firmly grounded in the liberal arts tradition that nurtures moral values and ethical decision making."

The university's dedication to enhance student living has been evident over the several years decade. Since 2007, Methodist University has opened a new science building, the Nimocks Fitness and Wellness Center, a new football field house, and begun construction of the Bethune Center for Visual Arts. Within this time frame the institution also purchased a majority stake of the King's Grant Golf Course, to meet the needs of a growing population of students who have been admitted to the PGA's Professional Golf Management Program.
