Melissa was friendly and helpful in getting us moved in extremely quickly from another state. We moved in sight-unseen and could not have done it without her.
Absolute worst staff! Do not expect to have any issues resolved. "Luxury" living includes constant maintenance issues, mold, termites, animal waste in common areas, overflowing trash, and many more. Excellent location but not worth the headache!!
West village is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. Here are the reasons why:
1. Management has lost rent checks from multiple tenants (even though those checks were deposited). Management then places notices on their doors threatening imminent eviction for this, and they will not attempt to find where the funds went and would rather the tenanf pay the rent again.
2. Renter's insurance more than doubled in price recently as this complex is now the considered a "high risk area," due to the high volume of break-ins (which management sends emails blaming the tenants instead of keeping the community informed of recent crime). Indeed the gates granting access to the buildings have been broken for over a year now, without any indication they will fix them. Many times they won't lock, and when they do, keycards are not recognized to open the gate. Someone's car was stolen from one of the "secure" parking garages last summer.
West village recently decreased the number of nights for valet trash collection from 5 to 3 nights per week, but didn't change our outrageous $45.00/mo fee. Their claim was the money saved would be put to enhanced security for the community - I have yet to observe any increase in security measures, and break-ins/property theft must be common enough for insurance companies to notice.
3. Leasing office staff members are rude and couldnt care less about managing the apartments.
4. Walls are very thin. Expect to hear everything your neighbors do. I mean, everything in very, very explicit detail.
5. Trash is always in the hallways. Now this is not West Village's fault, per se, but they do have the authority to enforce their own rules (garbage left out = $25.00 fee), but they never do.
Do not move here. You are better off renting a house in trinity park or paying extra to live in Liberty warehouse or any of the multiple apartments that have gone up around downtown. You will regret living here.
've lived here for a couple years now and have made quite a few friends in the building. After conversation with most of them, it has come to light that their base offer at the end of your lease is to increase your rent by $250. If you say you're going to move out, they immediately contact you back with a $50 offer. This has happened with at least 4 people that I've talked to. If you plan on living here expect atleast a $50 rent increase per year. The lady at the office tried to justify this by saying that it was less than moving cost so it was a better option than moving. They are basically banking on the fact that you won't move to raise rent by a $600/year.
The cable bill has gone up from $65-$90 with no change in plan. The trash bill has gone up from $20-$45 with a reduction in service (used to pickup 5 days a week, now pick up 3 days a week). I've also heard mixed comments from residents about whether or not they are forced to pay for parking. I wasn't but a few of my neighbors have.
The gym is packed most of the day so good luck getting a workout in the morning or evening hours. If you're not in a parking spot by 8pm, good luck finding parking. On top of that, my hallway smells like cigarettes (6th floor) and nothing has been done about it. Overall, this place is overrated and over priced. Only thing that got me here was the central location but with other options popping up around Durham, I'd avoid this place.
Only ten minutes from Duke University!
Located in the Warehouse District of downtown Durham, West Village is comprised of ten historic buildings converted into a spacious studio, one, two, three, and four-bedroom apartments.
The pet-friendly community is comprised of two different sectors which stay true to much of the buildings' original architecture. The Warehouse District buildings pre-date the 1920's and feature industrial-style lofts with exposed brick, hardwood floors, ceilings up to 22 feet, oversized windows and original wood beams. The Moore Building features contemporary construction with open, spacious units and clean design elements for a modern luxury feel.
With a walk score of 84, West Village is ideal for anyone wanting a true live-work-play urban experience. Forty-five restaurants are located within a half-mile radius. Upscale shopping (such as Brightleaf Square) and nightlife are within a few blocks. Duke University, Duke Hospital, and the Durham VA Medical Center are mere minutes from West Village. Durham Freeway, which provides easy access to Research Triangle Park, is only a short drive from the pet-friendly community.
West Village features a new seven-story parking structure, three Bark Parks, a resort-style pool with cabanas, a rooftop saltwater pool with sundeck, 24-hour fitness center, and yoga studio, and outdoor pavilions with grilling stations and flat-screen TVs.
As an equal opportunity housing provider, West Village provides housing opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, familial status or any other classification protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
