I literally love this place. Its very homey and a great quiet place to live. I have lived here over a year and just renewed my lease for another year. I feel at home whenever I come which is more important. The staff made it a point to know who the residents are and are wonderful at communication. Mr. Holloway is always warm and welcoming, as well has outstanding customer service. If it were if it were not for him i probably would not have renewed my lease, just having graduated college i was a little worried about renewing, he sat down with me and went over my options, and answered all the questions that I may have had. He also knows how to get the job done. Coming from a customer service background this is most important to me. For when I have a issue I know that IT will never be a problem getting IT done with him. This place is close to everything food wise. And very close to downtown Durham. If your in college or even in your career this place is great and very quiet.
Every person on the leasing office staff is rude. Its impossible to walk in and find someone who doesn't have an attitude. Also the rules they enforce are ridiculously absurd to the point where you can't even enjoy the amenities. For example you need a wristband to go to the pool and no guests are allowed on the weekends. This complex claims to be dog friendly but are only dog tolerant! One staff member yelled in my face repeatedly about my dog who did absolutely nothing wrong. The community is also filled with college aged tenants who are loud and disrespectful of the property, leaving trash and beer bottles everywhere. If you enjoy noisy neighbors and disrespect then maybe this is the place for you.
Management staff creates and enforces policies that alienate tenants.
The Heights has nice rooms but the management is horrible and very rude. They do not care about their residents. I would not recommend living at the heights with the new management.
The apartments are high quality. Great kitchens, ample storage, and well maintained. The hallways, leasing office, pool area are cleaning regularly and meticulously. The gates are frequently broken (but then again, it's not the complex's fault that people run them down with their cars.
There is a significant issue with noise, at least where my apartment is located. There are a number of Duke MBA/BS/JD students that can be absurdly loud. I'm young and have no qualms about it on friday night through the weekend, but a storm of at least 5 (probably 10) people running down the hall using their outdoor voices once to twice during a typical work week between 11PM to 3AM is too much. Seriously, I awoke and laid in bed for around an hour one night before I said to myself: yes, yes, this is two drunkards, I'm assuming duke students, dueting an extended version of the little drummer boy at 3AM on a thursday (IN JANUARY go figure, and they couldn't even hit the notes). These same hords deposit trash all over the hallways that the poor staff must clean up in the morning
The price fluctuates based on the type of year you apply. I okay happy with my rate for a 1bd/1ba, but I know others with the same floorplan paying 300 dollars more than me. I would say that overall the apartments are great, and the environment is good if you get it at the right price. It absolutely is not worth the price if you are in the 1100-1300s for singles or 1500-1600 for doubles.
