Bell west end in general is a great place to live. It is close to a number of bus routes and highways for easy access to and from wherever you are going. It is close enough to downtown and a lot of local attractions in Durham which is convenient. The community is great and most people keep to themselves. The room walls are not thin so sound from neighbouring rooms is limited. Noise from the hallway however is very audible. The parking garage is good although the turns are quite narrow that if another car is approaching you will have to yield as two cars will not fit. The amenities are nice and the pool and the outdoor patio is well kept an d is great. The gym is okay if you are not a person who works out often but extremely inadequate if you do heavier weight lifting. You will need to buy a gym membership elsewhere which is an added expense and something that you should consider when applying to liver here. On a similar note, the price on their website is not the full price. They add an internet and 'valet' garbage removal fee. The internet is $75 and in my honest opinion a terrible deal. Netflix, youtube, and other online video I need to run at lower quality otherwise risk the video freezing and buffering on you. During the evening when peak demands this is especially prone. The secure network often disconnects on you. Wired connection is slightly better. The instructions in completing your move is easy and well written. The parcel packages and mail room is well organized and helpful. If you are a cyclists there is a lot of storage available for your bicycle. If you work on Duke West campus there is the Bull city connector which is a 10 min walk and free. You are also very close to a number of buses that also connect to the Duke Hospital/VA. For the overall price I am paying, I feel it is slightly not worth it; although, there is not much in between a place like this or Trinity Commons versus Poplar West or Durham Place.
Bell West End is great! The leasing office was affable, helpful and always willing to lend a hand. I would definitely recommend living here to someone new to Durham.
A fantastic option for convenient, up-scale living in the heart of Durham. An actively managed property by a team that responds quickly, and goes out of their way to attend to matters as soon as they arise. It's a hidden oasis with a neighborly feel.
Walking distance to downtown, very safe, great staff, and well kept building.
Bell West End is a perfect location for those who enjoy being downtown without living right in the center of it. Amenities and upgrades are a positive of this community. I like that a maintenance member lives in the building to address immediate issues. Pest, internet/cable, and waste are all included which is a plus, however the cable/internet is not the most reliable. Overall, the complex is definitely 4.5 out of 5 for me.
