For the first two to three years that I lived at Camden Governors Village (CGV) in Chapel Hill I felt that it was a pleasant place to live with only minor issues to contend with. My opinion of CGV changed drastically. There are a few issues that have arisen in the past several months that have now made CGV a very undesirable place to live.
I expect an increase in rent every year. Last lease renewal included a huge increase in rent. It was over 10% with no additional benefits or reasons given for the hefty increase. If anything, living conditions have deteriorated over the years I have lived here. I believe that CGV is willing to drive out tenants in order to proceed with their current apartment upgrades. Apartments are being remodeled to market them as luxury. Unfortunately, the infrastructure is not adequate to accommodate the upgrades.
When the apartment below me was remodeled, the ceiling fans (that had been about a foot below the ceiling) were installed flush with the ceiling. This has created an awful noise in my apartment when the fans are running. (My misfortune that the new tenant has run the ceiling fans almost nonstop lately.) The noise is both a machine noise as well as a beating noise. I had to rearrange furniture in my apartment in an effort to try and escape the worst of the noise coming through my floor. Management came to my apartment to listen but said the noise was not significant. IT IS. In my bedroom there is no escaping the beating noise. In order to get to sleep, I have to use a white noise machine. It is on a timer so if I wake up, I have to reset the machine in order to get back to sleep. I never had this problem before the new ceiling fans were installed. My sleep has been disturbed and I cannot even sit in the room when the fans are running. It is truly awful.
The construction on the apartments being remodeled has been very noisy and dirty. No consideration has been given to the current tenants. Appliances that are
I love this community of loving and respected neighbors.
