Campbell University, a Baptists institution located in rural North Carolina, was founded as a small, community school in 1887. Nestled in the cozy village of Buies Creek, a town of just over 2,000 residents, the institution invites undergraduates and postgraduates to experience student living in a tranquil environment along the Cape Fear River. Today, about 7,000 students reside in student housing near Campbell University's main campus, though 3,400 others live in dormitories or university apartments near the school's other campuses in the region, including the law school that moved to Raleigh in 2009. Though in a rural setting, Campbell University's main campus is located just 30 miles south of Raleigh, and about 30 miles north of Fayetteville, North Carolina's sixth-largest city.
A liberal arts university, Campbell provides theoretical and vocational education through its colleges and professional schools. It's affiliation with the Baptist Church remains evident in the institutions promotion and application of Christian principles through its curriculum. Student living at Campbell University extends to more than 100 majors and concentrations, as well as master's programs in business, education, pharmaceutical science, clinical research and divinity studies. A physician assistant studies program was instituted in 2011, and the university plans to open an osteopathic medical school at its main campus by 2013. Currently, classes are offered through six divisions: the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Law, Divinity School, School of Education and School of Pharmacy.
Campbell University's rural setting inspires many students to rent off campus housing in the area. A university apartment can be found near the town's Main Street, which bisects the campus, and provides one route to the Cape Fear River, which is less than one mile south of campus. To the northwest, students can enjoy the wide green space of Raven Rock State Park.
