Greensboro, North Carolina's Bennett College is a four-year liberal arts college that has helped to expand educational opportunities for African Americans and young women throughout its history. Founded in 1873, the historically black institution got its start as a normal school providing education and student living arrangements to emancipated slaves. In 1926, the institution became a women's college, and it continues to educate its students with a special interest in investigating the role of African American women in society. It's growing academic reputation and location in one of North Carolina's largest cities keeps interest in Bennett College student housing high. Greensboro is the Tar Heel State's third-largest city by population, and includes a thriving downtown area that brims with cultural attractions and activity. Because of Bennett College's downtown location, those with a college apartment are often positioned in the middle of all the action.

Today, about 780 students, all woman and mostly African Americans, enroll at Bennett and live among the colleges dorms and off campus housing options. According to the college's website, Bennett aims to provide its students with a strong academic background that encourages personal development, fosters a commitment to life-long learning and prepares them to meet changes in the world. Students may in roll in any of the college's 24 degree programs, including three relatively new options that focus on the tribulations of women and African Americans. These include concentrations in Womanist Religious Studies, Global Studies, and Africana Women's Studies. The U.S. News & World Report Ranks Bennett College 16th among historically black colleges and universities in the U.S.

Outside of the classroom educational and cultural opportunities are also available for students who enter the community or reside in off campus housing. Downtown Greensboro is comprised of several colleges and universities, making for a distinctly student-friendly environment. Meanwhile, attractions like the Carolina Theater and the Greene Street Club are just blocks away from Bennett College student housing.
