SUNY Downstate Medical Center, NY

Celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2010, the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center (SUNY DMC) offers numerous medical and health science programs in its College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health Related Professions, School of Graduate Studies, School of Public Health and University Hospital of Brooklyn. The SUNY DMC began in 1860 as the Long Island College Hospital, which originally aimed to treat immigrants living in the Brooklyn area.

During SUNY DMC's storied history, it has welcomed its fair share of notable guests. Dr. Austin Flint, famous for introducing the stethoscope to American doctors, was one of the school's first faculty members. President Eisenhower officiated at the opening of the Basic Science Building in 1954, and Governor Nelson Rockefeller provided the dedication of the new University Hospital of Brooklyn in 1966. Most recently, the SUNY DMC has grown to include a state-of-the-art Biotechnology Park and Advanced Biotechnology Incubator, which students living in off campus housing or university housing have access to.

Student living at SUNY DMC includes the exciting neighborhoods located throughout Brooklyn, as well as attractions in New York City like Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, Times Square and Rockefeller Center.
