All about

New York Institute of Technology, NY

Born out of the New York Technical Institute, the New York Institute of Technology first opened its doors in 1955 in Brooklyn with the mission of providing a first-class education for its students, particularly in the fields of science, engineering and technology balanced by liberal arts courses. In addition to its New York campuses in Manhattan and Old Westbury, Long Island, the NYIT has facilities in China, Canada, Jordan, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

University housing and on campus housing at the Manhattan campus near Columbus Circle and Central Park provides students with access to NYIT's various social clubs and organizations. Students at the Manhattan campus primarily focus on programs in computer science, engineering, media and communications. NYIT's Old Westbury campus is primarily a commuter campus, with plenty of options for an off campus apartment or student apartment. The Old Westbury campus is one of the largest in the area and contains the school's sports center - home of the NCAA Division II NYIT Bears - the de Seversky Center, a popular event venue, and the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, the NYIT's medical school.

Among NYIT's most notable and recent research projects, the institute has been investigating electric vehicles and renewable energy supplies. In the mid 1970s, the NYIT was also a major researcher into the developing field of 3-D computer animation.
