Born out of the former Catholic, all-girls Academy of the Sacred Heart, Manhattanville College was chartered in 1919 by the New York State Board of Regents. The school moved from its location in Harlem to suburban Purchase in 1952 and began admitting men in 1969. Although Manhattanville is now non-denomination, the school still maintains the spirit and mission established by the Society of the Sacred Heart decades earlier.
