Five Towns College, NY

Five Towns College was initially planned to be located in the southwestern section of Nassau County known as "the Five Towns," but ended up in Merrick when its doors opened in 1974. School champions Stanley G. Cohen and Lorraine Kleinman-Cohen originally intended the school to specialize in business education, but over the years developed a reputation for its exceptional music programs - its stated mission being "dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and scholarship, the College celebrates the worlds of music, median business, teaching, the performing arts and the entertainment industry." In 1992, the school moved to its current location in Dix Hills.

Students living in university housing or an off campus apartment at Five Towns College have access to the school's popular programs in jazz/commercial music, childhood education, music education, theater arts, mass communication, video, film and business management. Famous alumni who spent time at Five Towns College include Julian Casablances, frontman for the Strokes, Adam Levine and Maroon 5's Jesse Charmichael and guitarist Joe Satriani.
