Nestled in Long Island is Dowling College. Originally founded in 1955, the school initially offered extension classes to the cities of Port Jefferson, Riverhead and Sayville, New York, for Adelphi University. It continued to operate under the aegis of Adelphi until 1968, when an old mansion in Long Island was purchased and the institution changed its name. Today, a student living nearby can choose from a number of wonderful programs.
Dowling College gives degrees to about 1,600 students annually. Undergraduates may choose to study from four different schools: Arts and Sciences, Aviation, the Townsend School of Business and the School of Education. A total enrollment of about 6,300 means a student living in the area will have no problem finding a group of peers to go through schooling with. However, the institution is small enough that students can form intimate bonds with their professors without much issue.
Additionally, living in an off campus apartment means having quick access to New York City - arguably one of the most bustling cities in the country. You can be confident in knowing that you'll never be lacking in things to do if you attend Dowling College! Regardless of where your interests lie, New York City has got something for you.
