Located in Midtown Manhattan, the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School and University Center grants all of the graduate and doctoral degrees in the CUNY system. The CUNY Graduate School's faculty is comprised mostly of leading academics from throughout the university's system and New York City institutions - the only school of its kind in the U.S.
CUNY first opened the Division of Graduate Studies in 1961, cementing its current status as the Graduate School and University Center in 1969. Currently, the Graduate Center shares space with the Oxford University Press and the Science, Industry and Business branch of the New York Public Library. The CUNY TV production studios are also located within the Graduate School location, along with three performance spaces and two art galleries.
Those living in an off campus apartment or student apartment have access to the Graduate Schools programs and lectures in fields such as humanities, engineering, social sciences, and physical and natural sciences. Student living and university living around the school's location on Fifth Avenue places students in close proximity to a number of New York City landmarks such as the Empire State Building, Broadway, Times Square, Madison Square Garden and thousands of other attractions.
