Bard College is a four-year residential college that was founded in 1860. The gorgeous, riverfront campus located in the Hudson Valley caters to more than 1,600 undergraduate students representing all U.S. states. The school's bachelor of arts degree has concentrations in more than 40 subjects, each in one of four categories: Arts, Languages and Literature, Science, Mathematics, and Computing and Social Studies. The Bard College Conservatory of Music also offers a dual-degree program in music and another field. A number of graduate degree programs are also available to students.
Eighty-five percent of students live on campus in a number of residence halls. Some are located in the center of campus, while others are only a short walk or bike ride away. The campus, which is more like a park than anything else, covers more than 500 acres of fields and forests along the Hudson River. Those in student living have a fantastic view of the Catskill Mountains to the west.
Students living in off campus apartments will be happy to know that New York City is only 90 miles south of Bard College, so a weekend visit by car or train is perfectly possible. Plenty of historical sites and museums are also located within a reasonable distance, so students have access to many cultural treasures.
Outdoor enthusiasts looking for university housing can rest assured knowing that horseback riding, skiing, rock climbing, white-water rafting and many more fun activities are all available in the area surrounding the college.
