During the later half of the 19th century, Paterson was instrumental in the production of silk in America and became known as the Silk City. This city is New Jersey's third-largest city in terms of population, with 150,000 people. Alexander Hamilton helped found the city of Paterson by creating the Society for the Establishment of Useful Manufactures to harness the power from the Great Falls of the Passaic River. The Society then established the city, making it the heart of the Industrial Revolution in America.
