Unless you have $500 to spare do NOT apply to this apartment complex. If they decline you it will be up to 2 weeks before you receive your money back. The office staff seems to be incompetent regarding their procedures and they will give you the runaround and continually send you to voicemails of people who cannot help you. They will NOT give you this information at the time you apply so when you need your money back to look elsewhere, you will NOT have your money to move with! They will decline you if you have anything less than perfect credit, but they don't tell you that either. They take your money and then they play a crazy game and you have to jump through hoops to get your refund. DON'T DO IT! DO NOT APPLY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE INDEPENDENTLY WEALTHY! which none of us are, or else you wouldn't be applying for an apartment.
overall ok apartment complex, i have to agree with the below person's comment in general.
pro: hands down more affordable apartments in the area in Morris County. situated quietly(people says they saw bear? ok maybe once in a blue moon take a chill pill), easily accessible to I-80, seems mainly blue class workers and families so peaceful most of the time (ie. no partying or loud occasions). its a BIG complex, so the maintenance works inside or outside could lag behind a bit, but overall doing a great job.
Now CONS: first and mostly, the insulation, i honestly do not know how these apartments got passed thru state inspection, its like living in a shell, if you have a neighbor owns a home entertainment system and like to watch netflix, then your screwed, the floor shakes, the wall shakes, the kitchen sink shakes, just boom boom boom! no neighborhood courtesy or respect wahtsoever and i also heard a lot of complaining from people living downstairs saying the footsteps are too loud from upstairs people, cant confirm that myself but take that with a grain of salt. Theres nothing management can do about it other than tear it down and rebuild the units.
next, u can smell what people are cooking or eating coming thru the vent, again related to insulation, BIG issue. next, start to seeing some low educated losers moving into the apartments, perhaps the management has some sales target to meet so they just dont care about background checks anymore, hence by the trash laying around, you can read more about it on here or google it yourself.
lastly, about the heat in the winter, i just have to say this: if you turn up the heat to 75 80 or above your going to pay a handsome amount of money, it doesnt matter if u use gas, electric, or magic. Now a lot of folks are been complaining for this, but as long as you keep the thermostat around 70, (usually 66 68), your going to pay about 30 to 40 dollars a month which is very reasonable, oh and get an upstair apartment if possible.
poor heating, poor management, poor insulation, poor sound insulation, poor landscaping. Now tenants are forced to pay for heating and hot water, which is much higher that the rent increase. Some tenants pay over $200.00 for January heating for 980 SQFT apt.
Poor quality overall. All these poor qualities started with new ownership. Tenants are DISAPPOINTED, at the least.
Don't let the beauty of the place fool you. They wouldn't rent to my husband and me because of a mistake my husband made 27 years ago, even after going back to their office with several letters of support and recommendations. They hand pick who they feel are the "right" kind of people they feel should live at sdk village green. Ugly hearted management with pretty apts!
