The Westlyn apartments are in a beautiful part of town, a walking distance from just about anything you could want. Although while living in the heart of downtown Reno you need to accept even the rough parts of it. The fact that youre surrounded by bars, that have drink deals it seems every night of the week, not to mention that Reno is notorious for crawls so expect things to get a little loud on the weekends. I can usually hear people laughing, yelling, etc right outside my window all hours of the night- not to mention the cars that honk and blare music 24/7.
Also, as the outside noises are loud so can the inside noises from others living not 7-8 feet away from you. These walls arent too thick and when the building does get quieter in the later hours it seems like you can really hear everything your neighbors are doing and saying. Which has a tendency to get really uncomfortable to think they can probably hear everything Im doing in private within my own home. Im not a very picky person when it comes to living situations but I have a tiny studio with no kitchen & barely any counter space yet I have a full sized refrigerator inside my apartment. Which I feel, is incredibly unnecessary and a huge waste of space- considering the lack of space I have already. I was hoping there was a shared kitchen concept (just as there is a bathroom) but Im just given a microwave. Thankfully all of these restaraunts are so close because without a kitchen Ive really been having to make ends eat by just going and buying food. For those (like myself) who have to use the shared toilet and shower, the shower itself is very grungy, and the room its in is uncomfortable, I think with some simple fixes it could be a lot better. This is where people live, they should at least make it feel more like home. Unless you can afford the full apartment, bathroom and kitchen included, I wouldnt waste your time. Ive appreciated my time here, although will not be recommending it to others.
The rent ended up being $200 more than the price quoted on their website. There is a slight unpleasant odor in the hallway which I stay.
However, the management team is very nice and promptly makes sure that all issues are expeditiously taking care of.
Vintage charm...with it's issues. The claw foot runs are in desperate nees of reglazing, the water comes out as rust, the appliancea are older than I am. Expensive for what you really get.
For just a little more, you can stay in the new high rise across the street.
Only good if your in a pinch. Communal baths rarely cleaned, loud, if you have room with steam pipe you're in trouble. It makes it a sauna! A.C. is ruining full blast with fan and still over 90! Staff is nice but things not disclosed until AFTER lease signed & paid. Had I known the issues I'd be dealing with - especially the steam pipe & noise I would have kept looking. Not happy & not renewing my lease.
I would like an apartment with a garage for my car.
