Located in St. Peter, Minnesota, Gustavus Adolphus College is a four-year institition of higher education that maintains strong ties to its Swedish origins and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The school was originally established in 1862 by pastor Eric Norelius as Minnesota Elementar Skola in the town of Red Wing, Minnesota. Three years later, the school renamed itself in honor of St. Ansgar as St. Ansgar's Academy. As the school continued to grow and expand, it changed names again in 1873 to become Gustavus Adolphus Literary & Theological Institute. In 187 the school shortened its name to Gustavus Adolphus College and moved to its current location in St. Peter. Today, the college is one of the oldest Lutheran academic institutions in Minnesota and provides quality Christian-oriented education for students from around the world.
