Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, Concordia University, St. Paul was originally founded in 1893 as Concordia High School by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to cater to young men looking to join the Christian ministry. During its earliest years, the school evolved its high school curriculum to include a two-year college program, which began in 1921. The college struggled to stay afloat during the Great Depression, but managed to turn its fortunes around as World War II began in 1941. The college finally became a coeducational institution in the 1950s and had expanded to become a four-year college by 1962. During the late 1960s, the high school division of Concordia separated to become an independent entity. In 1996, the school adopted its current name as Concordia University, St. Paul and is now one of Minnesota's premier institutes of higher education.
According to its mission statement, Concordia University, St. Paul exists "to prepare students for thoughtful and informed living, for a dedicated service to God and humanity, for enlightened care of God's creation, all within the context of the Christian Gospel." This mission includes a vision "to be an exemplary Christian university...
