Lawrence Technological University, MI

Lawrence Technological University, located in southeastern Michigan, is a private institution that offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of technical fields. Founded in 1932, the school has gradually made its way into the top-ranked universities in its region. Student living is centered in Southfield, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit with a population nearing 80,000 residents. A part of Detroit's upscale office market, the city is home to a number of parks, golf courses, skyscrapers and entertainment options that help to support the lifestyle of those who attend Lawrence Tech. Throughout the city, student housing, including off campus housing is available for both undergraduates and postgraduates at LTU. Currently, about 4,000 total students attend the university, enrolling in a variety of academic disciplines, and residing in a range of student housing options.

As a technical school, LTU offers degrees in engineering, sciences, mathematics, architecture, graphic design and business. In total, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate majors, 23 master's programs and 5 doctoral degrees in Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Engineering in Manufacturing Systems, Management in Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. Student living is divided among the Colleges of Architecture, Arts and Science, Engineering and Management. In 2010 Lawrence Tech's undergraduate engineering program was ranked 49th in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report, and the university was ranked the 55th best Master's-level institution in the Midwest in 2009.

LTU students who opt for off campus housing typically live in a neighborhood that includes Civic Center Park, Bauervic Woods Park and the Plum Hollow Golf Course within a mile radius. in downtown Southfield, students will find the five golden skyscrapers, known as the "Golden Triangle," that help lend the city its urban feel. The local neighborhood also includes such student hangouts as Kirby's Koney Island and Cafe Kebab.
