Kettering University, located in Flint, Michigan, shares a deeply-rooted connection with the American automotive industry in general and with General Motors in particular. Founded in 1919 as the School of Automobile Trades, the institution offered student living to those preparing for careers in industry and technology. Off campus housing is available throughout the neighborhood, which is within walking distance of Flint's downtown district.
