Hope College, MI

Located in Holland, Michigan, Hope College can trace its roots back to 1851 with the formation of the Pioneer School by the Reverend A.C. Van Raalte and the Reformed Church in America. The school's purpose was to provide a quality education that emphasized Christian learning and values. After more permanent buildings were constructed, the school earned a charter from the state of Michigan in 1866 as Hope College. Abandoning plans to rebrand itself as a graduate school named Hope Haven University, Hope opened its campus to the Western Theological Seminary in 1884. Though the early years were difficult for the young school, Hope College managed to survive into the modern era. Today, the college is an important part of Michigan's educational community and continues to serve students from around the world.

According to its mission statement, Hope College exists "to educate students for lives of leadership and service in a global society through academic and co-curricular programs of recognized excellence in the liberal arts and in the context of the historic Christian faith." This mission includes a vision "to pursue truth so as to renew the mind, enrich the disciplines and transform the culture, to inspire passion for the knowledge that grows into understanding and bears fruit in wisdom, to be an exceptional undergraduate liberal arts college that provides excellent professional and pre-professional programs…"

Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment have access to the school's distinguished academic programs and fields of study. Students may pursue degrees in concentrations such as philosophy, economics, biology, religion, mathematics and many more.

Student living and university living at Hope College revolve around a variety of traditional campus student programs and activities along with Christian-oriented community development.
