I have had an excellent experience living in this building over the past year. The building is under new ownership and improvements are being made to the building every single day. There is a large staff of 5 people in the building every day. Many great people moving in because of the new renovations. I just signed a renewal lease and can't wait to see what gets upgraded in months to come.

One of those beautifully designed Detroit Art Deco buildings. There's a lot of Apartment renovation work being done and the apts are nicely remodeled and pretty inexpensive. They all have new wood floors which is nice . Also the building is relatively quiet and located on bus line which provides quick and easy access to downtown and grocery shopping. Upper floor units facing the street have a nice view & full sun which brightens up the space. We have one of the newly renovated units . It's a good deal for a close to downtown property. The management company is really pretty responsive and they have an office in the building which is nice. Every building has issues but we like it for the price and especially because it's renovated .

A beautiful historic art deco building left to rot from the inside by a slumlord reside in New York.. Consider renting here only if you are willing to pay relatively low rent to live with rats, roaches, bedbugs, dirty hallways, daily disturbing noise, and constant litter by a cast of slovenly neighbors.

There are better places to live AND there are certainly many worse.. If you want inexpensive rent, this may be for you. However be wary & inquire pointedly about the drawbacks. While this art deco building is quite nice on the outside, the infrastructure is in need of an overhaul. On the surface the units impress with vintage art deco touches like high stucco ceilings, original trim and arched entryways. For the size, the amount of storage space is also very attractive and the layouts are efficient yet roomy.. However, it's very important to look beneath the surface before signing here. After signing a lease in mid May, my apartment had been plagued by bedbugs, mice and leaky pipes by July. After waiting for maintenance to address reported pests, I finally sprayed & steamed bedbugs & plugged up mouse holes myself at my own expense of nearly $150, plus the time it cost. The bathroom ceiling was painted sparkling white upon my move-in. Now it's dotted with wet, rusty brown spots and holes thanks to leaking pipes. Reported nearly a week ago, the leak has yet to fixed. Management and maintenance are often helpful and courteous, yet seem limited in what they can do by out of state owners who think filling units that are cheaply dressed up and poorly maintained is far more important than addressing the rights and needs of current paying tenants. The building has 4 floors but no working elevator & despite claims it will be running soon, my experience here suggests that will not be the case before my 12 month lease is up. On the positive side the building is relatively quiet and located on bus line which provides quick and easy access to downtown and grocery shopping. There's also convenience shopping across the street. Upper floor units facing the street have a nice view & full sun which brightens up the space. Not a bad place to live for the price, just be prepared to take on maintenance issues yourself at your own expense.
