Living in Smith College, MA

Smith College, a private liberal arts school in Northampton, Massachusetts, is an independent women’s college, and the largest member of the Seven Sisters consortium. Founded in 1871, Smith has a long history of academic success in the liberal arts, and is regarded among the finest options for women’s higher education in the country. Many young women pursue student living in Northampton because of the town’s distinctly New England character, and it’s emergence as a cultural hub. The 2,600 undergraduates enrolled at Smith College are able to find student housing in on-campus dormitories as well as Smith College apartments, flanked by the city’s plentiful art and music venues.

Offering 41 academic departments and programs, Smith attracts students with an interest in the niche specialties of the liberal arts curriculum. The college holds the distinction of being the first and only women’s college in the U.S. to grant its own undergraduate degrees in engineering. Both men and women are invited to complete graduate work at Smith, which leads to Masters degrees in teaching, fine arts, education of the deaf, and science, or a doctoral degree in social work. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked Smith the 14th best liberal arts college in the country.
