Initially established in 1911 as the post-secondary institution of the Dana Hall School, Pine Manor College has a long history of providing excellent education opportunities to young women - a goal fostered by founder Helen Temple Cooke. In 1930, the school began operating as an independent junior college. After breaking from the junior college division in the mid-60s, Pine Manor became a regular undergraduate institution in 1977. The college is located in the Massachusetts village of Chestnut Hill just outside of Boston. Today, Pine Manor continues to function as a women's liberal arts college.
According to its stated mission, Pine Manor College "is a four-year liberal arts college dedicated to preparing women for roles of inclusive leadership and social responsibility in their workplaces, families and communities. We pursue this goal through: integration of an outcomes-based curriculum and co-curriculum demonstrated by portfolio presentations, active, collaborative applied liberal arts learning and college-wide mentoring teams and community partnerships - in an environment that celebrates diversity and respects the common good."
Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment have access to Pine Manor's unique academic programs and fields of students. Students may pursue bachelor's degrees in popular majors like biology, business administrations, psychology, visual arts, English, history and culture, liberal studies, social and political systems and communications.
Student living and university living revolves around a variety of traditional on-campus student activities and organizations. The Pine Manor Gators compete in the NCAA Division III in sports like basketball, cross country, lacrosse, softball and soccer.
