Founded in 1886, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore has grown from its humble beginnings to become one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the state. Today, the school is home to nearly 4,000 undergraduate students have a wide variety of academic programs to choose from, and with a campus situated in the beautiful town of Princess Anne, the school offers a truly unique university living experience.
When it first opened its doors, UMES did not much resemble the school it has become today. Originally known as the Delaware Conference Academy, the school had very few buildings and a small student body. It has vastly expanded over the years, and today covers a sprawling 725 acres and 32 buildings.
With its growing size, UMES has also greatly expanded its academic offerings as well. The school is comprised of five different colleges including the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, School of Business and Technology and School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Additionally, with 20 degree programs to choose from, there's something for almost everyone.
In addition to its diverse and fulfilling academic programs, UMES also offers students a thriving athletic scene, whether they live in a college apartment or off-campus housing. The school is home to a number of successful teams including baseball and men's and women's basketball. However, it is the bowling team that has captured the most headlines, winning back-to-back national titles in 2011 and 2012.
As its name might suggest, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is conveniently located on the coast of Maryland, offering easy access to the water. With a location in the small town of Princess Anne, a relaxing college experience is well within reach.
