The result is more than just apartment life: it's a new definition of contemporary sophistication.
The Southerly is the perfect example of a "bait and switch." My Fiancee and I were very excited to be able to move into a new apartment building that listed tons of amenities and had a staff that, at first, seemed very friendly and helpful. We were willing to pay the exorbitant rent because we thought we were going to get a truly great experience from how the Southerly is advertised. To our dismay, this act ended within a month of moving in. Part of it has to do with the constant change in staff. It seems like even the people working in the building hate it so much that nobody last more than a couple months. The building itself started to show signs of shoddy construction almost immediately as well. Walls are paper thin, appliances constantly breaking down, and just every inch of the place seems like its held together by a glue stick.
On top of issues listed above, there is the glaring problem of false representation when it comes to what you will be charged living at that POS building. When we first signed our lease, we were told that the only utility we would have to pay is electricity. 6 months into our lease, we get a bill for over $200 for the water we had used up to that point and then from every month on, we had an addition to our rent that was anywhere from $30-50 extra. Of course the lease had a clause that mentioned their ability to change what they charge for utilities at any point in time. Beware, as soon as they have your money and you're locked into your lease, they WILL try to take advantage of any opportunity to milk more money our of you, and just treat you like garbage in general.
In short, the building is horribly built, horribly maintained, and horribly managed. Staff is unhelpful, rude, and honestly just lazy. NOT WORTH IT! Save yourself the headache and avoid this place at all costs!
On June 16, 2017, I visited The Southerly with an interest in renting there. While waiting for the leasing agent, I was made to feel very uncomfortable by one of the employees who at the time was in the rental office. He was wearing a blue Dolben shirt and khaki shorts. He seemed to be pacing back and forth and appeared to be watching or patrolling me and my daughter who is a student at Towson University. His actions made both me and my daughter feel very un-welcomed like we were in the wrong place. It made me wonder if we were being profiled. I decided to leave. This was a very unsettling experience. I would not recommend this apartment community to people of color.
