All about

Maryland Institute College of Art, MD

With its roots stretching back all the way to 1826, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is one of the oldest art schools in the United States. Over the last 185-plus years, MICA has risen to become one of the most respected fine arts programs in the country - with good reason. Thanks to a challenging curriculum and an ideal location right near the heart of downtown Baltimore, MICA provides a diverse and compelling university living experience.

The Maryland Institute College of Art has gone through a lot of changes over the years, but it began to resemble its current self around the turn of the century when its course offerings grew. Then, by the middle of the 20th century, the school changed its name to the current form and has enjoyed an improving reputation ever since.

Part of MICA's appeal is the wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs it offers. Students can choose from a number of different majors in areas including drawing, ceramics, humanistic studies and photographs. Additionally, there are graduate programs including sculpture, studio art and community arts. And with just around 1,850 undergrads, each student gets the attention he or she needs to be successful.

Along with its academic acumen, MICA also offers a thriving campus life to students whether they live in a college apartment or off-campus housing. There are plenty of student organizations to choose from ranging from academic groups to cultural centers to sports.

The school's location in Baltimore is also one of its greatest advantages. Regularly recognized as one of the best cities on the East Coast, Baltimore has everything - from professional sports teams to performing arts to delicious cuisine.
