Hood College, MD

Situated in the central Maryland community of Frederick, Hood College has been a leading liberal arts school for more than 115 years. Thanks to a rigorous academic catalogue, the school has earned a sterling reputation, and what was once an all girls university has expanded to become coeducational, offering students a rich and diverse university living experience.

Hood College was founded in 1893 under as the Women's College of Frederick. Though it was small at first (only 14 women were in its first graduating class), the school grew quickly and by the turn of the century it was well on its way to becoming the institution that it is today. By 1971, Hood began admitting men on a commuter basis, and by 2003 they were allowed to live in university housing.

At the center of the Hood College experience is its focus on academics. The approximately 1,500 undergraduate students have 28 degree programs to choose from in subjects ranging from religion and social work to management and early childhood education. Additionally, thanks to its low student population, each person attending Hood gets the attention he or she deserves from professors.

Along with its academic tradition, Hood College also offers an exciting student life. There are a wide variety of student organizations to choose from including academic, social and cultural clubs. Additionally, Hood is home to a number of competitive sports teams such as basketball, archery, tennis and swimming.
