The Community College of Baltimore County, once known as Catonsville Community College, has been providing undergraduate education opportunities across the Baltimore, Maryland, metropolitan area since 1957. The college now has three main academic campuses in the Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex outlying districts of Baltimore. The Catonsville campus is less than twenty minutes by car from the downtown Baltimore area, giving students the opportunity to find student housing in the heart of the city. Public transportation also provides easy access to the city for students who do not have their own cars.
CCBC enrolls 65 percent of part-time undergraduate students, and 33 percent of full-time undergrads in the greater Baltimore area. They also provide continuing education courses and custom employee development training programs. The school boasts more than 28,000 undergrads and nearly 37,000 continuing education students. CCBC offers degrees in a variety of traditional fields - such as biology, mathematics, psychology, nursing and women's studies - as well as many different certification programs. There is no on campus housing available, so students can check out student housing in the local area or find an off campus apartment in nearby Baltimore.
Catonsville is known as "The Music City" to locals, and students who have off campus housing in this town will have no trouble finding fun live shows to attend. There are also plenty of local restaurants and shops along Main Street. Students can visit the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum to learn about one of the local celebrities from the 1700s. Banneker enjoyed farming, math and beekeeping. He might even be the perfect focus of a historical research paper for a CCBC course.
