I recently moved out after a 3 year stay while I completed my residency at UMD. Due to the proximity to UMD there were lots of other residents also living there, and nearly everyone in the building was a familiar and friendly face. The 24 hour valet guys were a real comfort to have around, management (Allegra) was super responsive, and maintenance was great. He always responded within 24-48 hours, and even helped me with hanging pictures in my apartment. The building was safe and clean, however I will say that the convenient location was the best thing about it in my opinion. Highly recommend if youll be at UMD.
Pros: Safe location. Maintenance requests addressed promptly. Luxer package lockers are safe and convenient. Option for loft style apartments with nice high ceilings. Pet-friendly. Cons: Required valet parking is a significant downside. My car has been damaged by them multiple times. Management is very inflexible with leasing issues. To break your lease, you must provide 90 days notice, pay a penalty of 2 months rent, then continue to pay an additional 3 months rent unless they can lease it sooner. They also make it difficult and inconvenient to lease for less than a year. Month to month leases are double the cost of a year long rental. They also typically do not offer the option to renew for shorter periods like 6 months. Management frequently sends out emails that are somewhat unprofessional. My experience has been ok overall, but it is probably worthwhile to pay a little more to live in a more upscale building with professional management staff.
The property management is a MESS and they are rude to tenants when they are the ones who don't want to or can't perform their job (maintenance, communication, building issues, etc). Just waiting out the lease to move out asap because nobody wants to sublease here and I've been searching for 2 months to leave. Don't rent here.
They have a tenant rule book that is not part of the lease. The use it to change the rules after you have signed your lease.
Sailcloth loft changed these rules significantly after the realized the lease did not forbid smoking with a tenant's apartment.
Have to wait to be emailed by the leasing consultant... not a convenient process!
