The Metropolitan Community College Longview campus in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is one of the leading junior colleges in the country. MCC-Longview was the first two-year institution to earn the College of the Year award from TIME and The Princeton Review in 2001. The college has five campuses throughout the state, and each offers unique degree programs and educational opportunities. The Longview campus has five academic divisions - Natural Science, Social Science, Humanities, Education and Math, Engineering and Physics.
Students can pursue their education in Automotive Technology, Teacher Education, Human Services, Criminal Justice and many other areas of study. They have the option of working toward an associate's degree or earning credits to transfer to a four-year school and pursue bachelor's degrees. There are plenty of other offerings outside of academia, such as a number of competitive and intramural sports teams, student-run organizations and clubs and a recreation center. These are all great ways to meet new people and make friends, as MCC-Longview does not provide university housing.
There are plenty of off campus apartments in Lee's Summit. Enrollees who would prefer a more urban environment can check out student living options in nearby Kansas City, which is about a half hour's drive from the campus. The close proximity to the city gives Longview students the chance to enjoy urban nightlife and attractions. There is an aquarium and a LEGOLAND Discovery Center where students can reconnect with their childhoods for an afternoon. The campus is far enough away from the bustling urban environment that students will be able to study in peace.
