University of Louisville, KY

Founded in 1798, the University of Louisville was the first city-owned public university in the United States. The university is credited with feats like having the first civilian ambulance, the nation's first emergency room and one of the first blood banks in the U.S. Students and professionals looking to rent an apartment in the U of L area may be interested in the school's high research activity, but there is much that the region has to offer in the way of recreation as well.

The Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is one of the biggest attractions in the U of L area, drawing apartment renters from all over. As the historical headquarters of the legendary Louisville Slugger baseball bat, this museum features batting cages, a guided tour showing you how the bats are made and a huge six-story bat leaning against the building itself. Baseball enthusiasts are sure to have a wonderful time here - and they get to take home a complimentary souvenir.

Fans of history and lovers of old homes should make sure to swing by Old Louisville - a neighborhood comprised of 1,400 structures built between 1885 and 1905. Here, many of the buildings look much like they did a century ago. It was the city's first suburb, and was home to the elite before its sad decline in the 1940s. These days, however, apartment renters should know that it is one of the nicest neighborhoods in the U of L area.
