All About

Living in Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, KY

The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary got its start in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1859. Southern Seminary was relocated in Louisville, Kentucky, in the wake of the Civil War. Here, enrollees can learn about the Baptist faith and prepare for a life in service of God. The college places emphasis on community service, locally and globally. Students will be able to pursue mission work around the world with the help of SBTS or spread their message locally in the Louisville metropolitan area.

Students can choose between living in university housing and finding off campus apartments. Any student living off campus is even able to rent a room for a few nights a week if they would prefer not to commute. This can also make it easy for commuting students to get to Chapel services on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. There are also a number of student organizations where enrollees can meet new friends, including Bible Translators in Training, Ministers in the Military and Pros Apologian. Pros Apologian is a group that focuses on understanding opposing religious beliefs and learning how to speak to non-believers about the Christian faith in a respectful manner.

When students aren't busy on campus or studying, they can enjoy the many attractions Louisville has to offer. The metropolitan area is home to a number of parks and museums as well as the internationally renowned Kentucky Derby. Whether SBTS students are passionate about art, history or sports, they will enjoy all Louisville has to offer. The city also boasts many churches, so students may be able to find positions in the religious community upon completion of their time at Southern Seminary.
