Midway College was founded in 1847 and is the only remaining all women's college in Kentucky. For more than 165 years, the small liberal arts school has earned a sterling academic reputation while offering a diverse and fulfilling student living experience.
The school began as one of the only institutions in the country that opened its doors to orphaned and disadvantaged women. Though it has since broadened its scope, it still places an emphasis on providing quality education to a wide variety of students. Today it offers both two and four year degrees in a number of different areas including arts and humanities, business and, uniquely, equine studies. With a small campus and just around 1,800 students, each person attending Midway College gets the attention she deserves.
University living at Midway College is a one-of-a-kind experience. Located in the heart of Kentucky Bluegrass region, the campus is located in the small rural town of Midway, Kentucky, and is replete with tradition. Among the most well known is the Night of Lights. Held annually at the end of the academic year, students send small candles down a stream in the hopes of their wishes coming true.
Although the campus provides a unique experience, students living in off-campus apartments in the town of Midway also have plenty to enjoy. Though it has a population of just around 1,600 residents, there is no lack of activity. The town features a number of popular yearly events including the Midway Fall Festival, which includes everything from food to crafts to demonstrations. Additionally, Midway's annual Independence Day Celebration is something that can't be missed.
