Georgetown College, KY

Founded in 1829 as the first Baptist college west of the Allegheny mountains, Georgetown College has developed into one of the leading liberal arts institutions in the region. With a diverse course catalogue and variety of degrees, the school offers a unique student living experience right in the heart of Kentucky.

The school has seen significant changes throughout its lengthy history. Though it enjoyed a very small student body throughout its early years, it has grown more recently into an institution of nearly 1,300 undergraduates, and has worked to develop a more diverse academic atmosphere. Today, Georgetown College offers students more than 70 different majors, minors and academic programs. It's no surprise that the Princeton Review named it as one of the best southeastern colleges.

Georgetown students can certainly hang their hat on the school's academic reputation, but the university living experience offers much more than that. In addition to thriving Greek life, students at Georgetown College can participate in everything from intramural sports to the student radio to one of the many other student-run groups on campus.

The school's athletic reputation also provides plenty of opportunities for student involvement. The Tigers football program stands above the rest, having captured Division II national championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Even if students choose to live in an off-campus apartment, there is plenty to do thanks to the school's location in Georgetown, Kentucky. The historic city of around 29,000 residents has plenty to do and is peppered with southern charm. Georgetown features a number of historic buildings including Ward Hall, which dates back to 1802.
