McPherson College, founded in 1887, is a small four-year liberal arts college where students can pursue degrees in a wide variety of fields. The rural school was named one of the top 50 institutions in the Midwest by U.S News and World Report. With an annual enrollment of around 700 students, McPherson boasts a student to faculty ratio of just 15 to one, and most classes have fewer than 20 students. This allows enrollees to get individualized attention and form meaningful relationships with their peers and professors.
McPherson has more than 20 undergraduate majors to choose from, including the popular choices of Engineering, Business, Biology, Performing Arts and Public Administration. Students can also seek graduate degrees in Education at McPherson. Since the location is rather rural, most students prefer to live in university housing, but there are options near the campus for those who would prefer to find student apartments.
Wichita is about an hour north of McPherson, giving individuals the chance to seek off campus living opportunities in an urban environment. This also makes the city an ideal destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Wichita is full of museums, historic landmarks, theaters, shopping, outdoor recreation and dining opportunities, making it a place individuals can visit again and again. Students don't need to leave the McPherson area to have fun either. There are plenty of parks where individuals can go with their friends to play and relax. They can also tour the Wildlife Refuge, which is home to hundreds of bison, elk and other animals.
