Central Baptist Theological Seminary, founded in 1901, trains students who want to pursue careers in the Church and for missionary work around the world. The college only offers graduate-level and higher degree programs, so enrollees will need to first obtain their bachelor's degrees before applying to CBTS. There are three main programs - Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theological Studies and Doctor of Ministry - as well as a program for students looking to complete a Diploma in Theological Studies. The diploma is an option for those who do not have a bachelor's degree but want to learn more about theology and ministerial studies.
Community is emphasized at CBTS, and while there is no university housing, students can join the Central Student Ministries (CSM) to meet and spend time with their peers. This group gets together regularly for community meals, where they are free to discuss the seminary and themselves. The Women in Ministry and Minority Student Fellowship are active clubs at CBTS as well. Students should have no trouble finding off campus apartments in Shawnee. This town is just outside of Kansas City, so those who prefer a more urban environment can easily get a college apartment downtown and commute to school.
When students are not in class, studying or attending church they will find plenty to do in the greater Kansas City area. The Shawnee Mission Park has a large lake, where individuals can go boating or fishing. There are a number of trails and play areas in the park as well. Kansas City has many shopping and dining opportunities perfect for a Saturday trip.
