Briar Cliff University, founded in 1930, is a private Roman-Catholic liberal arts college that offers bachelor's degree tracks in more than 30 different fields of study. Due to its affiliation with the Church, BCU places great emphasis on Roman Catholic teachings and values. The college is located on the outskirts of Sioux City, Iowa, so students will have no trouble finding the perfect off campus apartment if they forego university housing, which roughly two thirds of enrollees choose to do.
The university strives to help students fulfill their degree requirements while preparing them to enter the job market and helping with their personal growth. As such, students can benefit from internships, research opportunities and other hands-on experience to help them get ready for the "real world." BCU has a student to teacher ratio of 13 to one, so enrollees know they will be able to get personal attention in the classroom. The school's annual enrollment of just more than 1,000, along with small class sizes will make it easy for the students to get to know one another while they pursue their degrees.
The most popular majors offered at the university include Business Administration and Management, Education, Nursing and Biology. When students aren't studying, they can check out some of the attractions Sioux City has to offer. There is a casino, the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, an ice rink, theaters that host national acts, plenty of shopping opportunities and a number of restaurants. Those seeking off campus housing can check out the neighborhoods of the North Side and West Side of Sioux City to find the perfect student living opportunity to suit their needs within striking distance of the college's campus.
