I lived at the Coolspring Estate apartments for a little more than 2 years. The apartments were some of the largest in Michigan City for the best price. They were nice apartments, parking was good, and it was well maintained for the most part. The staff was also friendly.
I, however, will not choose to live in this apartment again for the following reason.
A few months after I moved in, my ground floor apartment backed up with sewage water. The maintenance team responded right away and got the filthy water cleaned up. They tried to blame me for the sewage back up claiming that I was dumping kitty litter down my toilet, as a grey clumpy substance had backed up into my tub. Lucky for me, the maintenance man informed them that I had a receptacle in the form of a litter genie in which I disposed of my cats waste as well as nothing showing up on the snake when they cleared the clog, which was in the hall where all pipes converge and they did not charge me. The apartment then flooded a second time with sewage water with the same clumpy grey matter about a year and a half later. This time the maintence crew had to be called twice before anyone responded and my apartment flooded much worse than the first time. They blamed me once again claiming I had flushed kitty litter down my toilet and this time I did not have the maintence man there to defend me. So this time they charged me a fee. Then several days passed and no one came to clean up the standing sewage water in the apartment. I ended up contacting the health department before they finally sent someone to shampoo the carpets and soak up the water, which by this time, the carpets should have been ripped out and replaced due to the length of time they were saturated with standing sewage water (more than a week after all was said and done). The smell was awful. Upon moving out, I was charged $1600 plus my deposit so they could replace the carpets.
Additionally, Windows, appliances need replaced. Nipsco $300
My husband and I have a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath on rhe ground floor. We love it! There is lots of storage space. Staff is helpful and nice.
My spouse and myself came from a complex that will not be named. In short the community was a terror. Coming here is like a breath of fresh air!
I will start with saying that the apartments are not as updated as others but kept in good condition. No central AC but they do have AC units that cool off the apartment just fine. We live in a two bedroom that is very spacious (we are not use to the space), and management/maintenance have been very nice throughout the whole process. Our neighbors and community are very nice and courteous.
There will always be the common noises living around others but for the most part people are very courteous of one another here. There are also coin fed washer and dryer units right in the building which makes time consuming trips to the laundromat non existent anymore. With our old complex they had one area with a few washer and dryers located at the center of the entire complex. Many had to dry on balconies due to people removing others laundry to steal a dry, Here all we have to do is turn a corner to do laundry and it is very cheap!
In this complex we definitely don't have to worry about that! To enter your own building you need a key, and if guests come over they have to be buzzed in. This is a huge perk because at our previous complex we had safety issues with people trying our doors late at night.
We have been in our apartment a little over two weeks now and I have to say we love it here. Had we stayed at our previous apartment we would have been paying 175+ more a month for less space. The apartments were more updated but the community and crime were very bad. Here is a totally different world and we feel very blessed to have found this place. The layout of this apartment feels more like a home and less like a box. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good apartment with a good price range and in a good neighborhood with friendly people.
Choose elsewhere if you are wise! Better yet, come drive through at night and park outside some of the buildings - you can see what's really going on for yourself!
The apartment was lovely but they don't accept large dogs. Unfortunately the apartment is a no go for me. They do accept animals under 35lbs.
