Living in Greenfield, IN

Greenfield, a town in Indiana, has a population of approximately 21,000. Retirees account for a greater percentage of the population (18%) here than nationally (14%). Renters tend to be in the minority in Greenfield, and 60% of residents own their homes. With an average rent of $909/month, exceeding the state average by $82 a month, relatively high rent costs could play a role in the higher levels of ownership.

Compared to the national average (5%), Greenfield has a relatively large concentration of residents older than 25 who have an Associate's degree (7%). Further, 15% have earned a Bachelor's, Master's, Professional, or Doctoral degree. There are three primary industries in Greenfield: manufacturing, retail, and healthcare. Combined, these industries make up 24% of the city's labor force. Meanwhile, in terms of job function, many workers in these industries are in sales, as 8% of the city's population reports this as their field of work, the highest number of any profession. Greenfield workers earn an average annual income of almost $62,000, roughly the same as the average Indiana resident. However, Greenfield compares less favorably to the national average ($73,345).

Averaging about 24 minutes, the commute time for Greenfield residents is quicker than around 70% of cities in the state. Driving a vehicle is the typical means of commuting to work, chosen by 45% of commuters, while public transit is not used. Walking isn't a common way to get to work.
