Founded in 1965 by a community referendum, William Rainy Harper College is a community college located in the northwest Chicago suburb of Palatine. The school is named in honor of Dr. William Rainy Harper, the first president of the University of Chicago and a proponent of establishing junior colleges in America. Harper College's general mission statement is "providing excellent education at an affordable cost, promoting personal growth, enriching the local community and meeting the challenges of a global society." As a community college, Harper also helps students earn credits in order to transition to a regular four-year college or university.
