Principia College is the division for higher education of The Principia, an educational institution catering to Christian Scientists. In addition to Principia College, the Principia includes the Principia School, located in Town and Country, Missouri, which provides education for students from childhood to high school. The institution was founded in 1898 by Mary Kimball Morgan, who wished to home school her children in the Christian Science fashion. In 1912 the Principia added a junior college, which earned four-year college status in 1932. Later that decade, Principia College moved to Elsah, Illinois - across the Mississippi river in Missouri. Principia College's stated mission is "to serve the Cause of Christian Science through appropriate channels open to it as an educational institution."
